Sunday School

In response to the Great Commission, (Matt. 28:16-20), the Boulevard Baptist Church takes seriously the mandate to evangelize and “make disciples”. The Sunday School Ministry is seen as a foundational strategy for evangelism, discipleship and worship as well as an effective way to assimilate new believers into the fellowship of the church.

The Sunday School Ministry is headed by the Pastor, and supervised by an elected superintendent and two assistants. All members of the church are encouraged to be engaged in this ministry. The Sunday School members meet in small groups according to age thus providing opportunities for building relationships and for sharing with and supporting each other. The classes are as follows:

  • Beginners: 4-6 years - Bible Stories

  • Younger Children: 7-9 years - Bible Seekers

  • Older Children: 10-12 years - Bible Discoverers

  • Youth: 13-18 years - Bible Enquirers

  • Adults: 19 and up - Bible Leaders

Sunday School classes are held each Sunday morning at 8:00-8:50. The lessons are guided by Caribbean Bible Lessons, The Living the Word Series, published by Christian Caribbean Publications.

Annual special events include:

  • Sunday School Emphasis in March. The Sunday School is highlighted and celebrated at the Sunday morning services during the month. Emphasis is placed on “high attendance” and members are encouraged to make a special effort to invite others to join a Sunday School class.

  • Teachers’ Retreat/Seminar in May.  This is a one day event for reflection and inspiration through training, devotion and presentations.

  • Summer Camps in July. The venue for these camps varies. The camp-sites at Nutshell Conference Centre, Duncans, and Clydesdale National Forest Park have been used in the past.

  • Vacation Bible School  in August. This is a five day event during which children of various age groups learn about the Bible through various fun and educational activities.

  • Sunday School Examinations in  October. Members from all the classes sit the annual Jamaica Baptist Union Christian Education Department Sunday School Examinations.

  • Sunday School Anniversary in December. A special service is held during which various prizes are presented for achievements such as regular attendance and success at the JBU Sunday School examinations and incentive awards given to older children who were successful in the GSAT examination and to a student attending a tertiary institution.
